SF | Army and Air Force drills improve defenses inside and outside of countries | MANILA – Col. Xerxes Trinidad, a spokesman for the Philippine Army (PA), said on Tuesday that the five-day practice they are doing with the Philippine Air Force (PAF) is meant to improve how they talk to each other and work together, whether they are doing missions for internal security or territorial defense.
On Monday, the five-day PA-PAF Interoperability Exercise (IOX) began at Camp Melchor F. Dela Cruz in Gamu, Isabela, and will end on Saturday. It is being held by the 5th Infantry Division.
“(This iOX also seeks) to enhance personnel competencies and unit capabilities and be readily deployable, as well as to sustain and jointly address contingencies (and) to enhance the interoperability relations between the PA and PAF through the conduct of training exercise in support to the accomplishment of the respective missions,” Trinidad told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) in a message.
He also said that this year’s IOX has field training exercises (FTXs), subject matter expert exchanges (SMEEs), and command post exercises (02021).
There are about 836 PA and PAF members in the SMEEs. They work on intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, air-to-ground operations, close air support, the fast rope insertion and extraction system, military free fall, the hoist, the communication and support system, and sustainment operations.
The battle staff practice will be about problem-action scenarios, and they will all be used in the FTX as a final activity. (PNA)
