SF | DOH: More than 95% of bivalent vaccines given | MANILA – Regarding the 390,000 doses of the bivalent vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) that were provided, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Thursday that about 95.30% of them have been given to priority population groups.
The agency said it is always talking with the COVAX Facility and Gavi to negotiate the best possible vaccine distribution for the Philippines.
While COVAX Facility is a global effort to make sure everyone has equal access to Covid-19 vaccines, Gavi is an international group set up to help the poorest countries get new vaccines that aren’t being used enough.
The Department of Health’s Undersecretary for Communications, Enrique Tayag, said earlier that the country should get 1.5 to 2 million doses of the given bivalent Covid-19 vaccine by the end of the year or in the first quarter of 2024.
“At present, the DOH is in the process of finalizing legal instruments to facilitate effective allocation of the vaccines until the end of the year,” said the agency. “Definite timetable on its arrival is still to be determined.”
Since March 19, 23,811,248 Filipinos have already gotten their extra shots against Covid-19, a total of 78,443,972 have been fully vaccinated.
Additionally, as of September 20, the country had recorded 4,113,054 Covid-19 infections, with 2,771 cases, 4,043,588 cures, and 66,695 deaths. (via PNA)
